Dr Barry L. Bentley
Barry L. Bentley is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Bioengineering, Head of the Bioengineering Research Group, and Deputy Director of the EUREKA Robotics Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University. He is also a 2023-24 Fulbright Scholar in the NSF ATP-Bio research centre at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Fellow of the Foresight Institute, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a CASMI Fellow at UCL.
Barry received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge, where he worked at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology to map and analyse the neuromodulatory connectome of C. elegans. Barry has conducted research and consultancy work for numerous organisations including the University of Oxford, the European Space Agency, London Business School, and ARM Holdings. His current research focuses on the development of laboratory systems for biopreservation, and the development of classification and staging systems for age-related pathology within the context of the WHO ICD-11.
Previous research includes work with Prof. Angelo Cangelosi and the Advanced Concepts Team at the European Space Agency, investigating brain-inspired control systems for planetary rovers; and the verification of operational space flight dynamics software with engineers at University at Buffalo (SUNY) and MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
